ANTI NARCOTICS CELL
The Anti Narcotics Cell of Mar Gregorios College of Law functions with the objective of fostering a drug-free campus and creating awareness among students about the harmful effects of substance abuse. The Cell operates under the guidelines of the Higher Education Department and coordinates with the College Counselling Cell, NSS Unit, and external experts as needed. The Cell remains committed to preventive education, continuous monitoring, and student welfare.
1. Celebrating Key Days (In Association with NSS)
The Narcotics Cell, in collaboration with the National Service Scheme (NSS), observes important days to strengthen awareness about the dangers of drug abuse:
• International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (June 26):
Organized awareness talks, pledge-taking, poster campaigns, and a short documentary screening.
• Anti-Drug Awareness Week / National Youth Day:
Conducted debates, slogan-writing contests, and interactive sessions highlighting the psychological, legal, and social implications of drug use.
Working with the NSS ensures larger student participation and promotes collective responsibility towards maintaining a drug-free campus.
2. Providing Support and Counseling
The Cell ensures emotional and psychological support for students who may be vulnerable:
• Identification of students showing behavioural or emotional concerns through faculty and peer referrals.
• Confidential counselling provided through the College Counselling Centre.
• Referral to external mental-health professionals when necessary.
• Sessions on stress management, decision-making, and mental well-being to address factors that may lead to substance misuse.
3. Ensuring a Drug-Free Zone
To maintain discipline and safety on campus, the Narcotics Cell undertakes:
• Periodic inspections in classrooms, common areas, parking space, and hostels.
• Reinforcement of zero-tolerance policy through circulars, orientation programmes, and class announcements.
• Collaboration with NSS volunteers to promote vigilance and positive peer influence.
• Coordination with local authorities or legal bodies when required.
These proactive measures help sustain a secure and drug-free learning environment.
4. Organizing Awareness Programs (In Association with NSS)
Multiple awareness initiatives were carried out jointly with the NSS Unit, ensuring wide reach and active student engagement:
• Expert talks by police officers, legal professionals, counsellors, and health practitioners.
• Workshops on legal consequences of drug possession and the psychological impact of addiction.
• Poster-making competitions, rallies, flash awareness drives, and group discussions.
• Class-wise sensitization led by trained student volunteers from NSS and the Narcotics Cell.
These programmes significantly improved students’ understanding and empowered them to make informed, healthy choices.
The Narcotics Cell, in close collaboration with the NSS Unit, has played an active role in reinforcing a safe, vigilant, and drug-free campus environment. Through awareness programmes, counselling support, monitoring, and strong student engagement, the Cell continues to uphold the institution’s commitment to student welfare and preventive education.
